      Toledo Police officer arrested on domestic violence charge

      Berndt is being held at the Lucas County Jail on a domestic violence charge.
      A Toledo Police officer was arrested early Tuesday morning for a domestic violence incident that happened earlier this week.Jeremy Berndt, 39, is being held at the Lucas County Jail on a domestic violence charge.Court documents indicate Sgt. Laurie Lewis showed visible bruises Sunday after Berndt threw her into the wall, "knocking her down."Berndt had been living with Lewis when he grabbed her by the wrists and repeatedly shoved her into a kitchen counter, according to the affadavit. Lewis received medical treatment at St. Anne's Hospital.Public Information Officer Heffernan said he took himself off payroll. Berndt had to turn in all firearms including his service weapon into Toledo Police.Lewis did not want a temporary protection order, according to a court document she signed.Berndt is scheduled for Nov. 15 court date.
