In an effort to reduce violence, the city of Toledo is offering to put cash into the hands of those with guns.
The Toledo Police Department will hold a "no questions asked" gun buy back program Saturday, June 8 at People's Missionary Baptist Church, 1101 Heston St.
The city will pay $50 for each operable firearm exchanged. Weapons must be unloaded. Up to two handguns permitted per person.
The program will also accept unwanted ammunition, shotguns, rifles, BB guns, starter pistols, pellet guns, and visibly inoperable firearms. However, no payment will be offered for these items.
The goal of the program is to reduce violence in the city while providing opportunities to learn about alternatives to gangs and violent lifestyles. The event includes education and prevention programs regarding gun safety.
All collected firearms will be destroyed by the Toledo Police Department.
