Toledo woman indicted in death of Sylvania teen

A Lucas County Grand Jury has indicted a Toledo woman in the January death of a Sylvania Northview freshman.

Cynthia Anderson, 66, has been indicted on one count of aggravated vehicular homicide in the death of Morgan Duris, 15. The teenager was struck by Anderson's SUV as she was crossing the street to board her school bus on the morning of Jan. 12. The accident occurred in front of Duris' home on Erie St. in Sylvania.

Anderson was taken transported to the Sylvania Police Department immediately following the crash where she explained to investigators what happened. "It was stopping. I was going to see the red thing and I was going to beat it," she said. "I wasn't looking over there. The child just darted. I was looking at the school bus and the child darted out," Anderson told detectives.

In a lengthy report, detectives compiled witness statements from drivers stopped on either side of the school bus, along with several students on-board the bus that morning. In her statement, Anderson, of 915 Lincoln in Toledo, told investigators that she was on her way to work at the Sunset Village assisted living center on Sylvania-Metamora Road when the crash occurred. The nursing home's assistant director later told police that Anderson is not an employee of Sunset Village and that she came there regularly to care for one of the residents.

Sylvania Police concluded their investigation of the incident earlier this week before handing over their findings to the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas Prosecutor's office.
