Consistent rain showers on Monday did not dampen the spirits of those in attendance at Memorial Day ceremonies in Toledo. More than 200 people congregated at Ottawa Hill Memorial Park, including Vietnam War veteran Ron Cox who is a member of the VFW Post 2898. "This is the greatest country in the world, despite the fact that we have problems here at home there is no place that I'd rather be than America," Mr. Cox said.
A crowd of about 100 people attended the ceremony at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery. The Jerry Powell Band played several patriotic medleys. Reverend Carolyn Eyre of Church Women United says it is important to recognize the dead and the living. "We need to remember also the families that gave up their loved ones and as we go on each day we need thank every veteran that we see for the sacrifice they have made for our country," Reverend Eyre said.
