A Toledo police officer is off the street, suspended without pay after being accused of theft on the job.
Toledo Police spokesman, Joe Heffernan, told WNWO that a citizen filed a complaint on January 20, claiming officer Mark Barnes stole something while on duty on January 19.
Barnes was placed on administrative leave Tuesday while both internal and criminal investigations continue.
"According to the contract [with Toledo Police Patrolman's Association] the administrative and criminal investigations must be conducted separately," said Sgt. Heffernan. "Officer Barnes has not yet been charged with any crime or violation of administrative policy, but the investigations are ongoing."
Officer Barnes is a nine year veteran of the department.
