TPD searching for men behind 7 gas station robberies, possibly more
Toledo, Ohio (WNWO)--Caught on camera, but even surveillance footage wasn’t enough to stop two men from robbing several businesses, most of them gas stations.
TPD says stores include:
- 7-11 on Navarre Avenue
- Tobacco Stop on the 4200 block of Monroe Street
- Circle K on the 2900 block of Tremainsville Road
- Marathon (Former Clarke) gas station on the 4400 block of Monroe Street
- Stop and Shop on Dearborn Avenue
- Gateway Express on the 3800 block of Haverhill Drive
- Marathon on the 300th block of West Alexis Road
The thieves come in armed with weapons, tell everybody to get down, demand the cash and then get out. Their manner is described as very “aggressive”. Toledo Police Department PIO, Kevan Toney says in many cases the men snatched the cash register drawers out of the machine.
Store clerk Linda Vasquez was at a gas station on Monroe just a few miles down from where the Marathon was robbed.
“I happened to close early that night. Otherwise I'm almost positive it probably could have been me and it does scare me.”
This tobacco shop hit last month by the suspects, says they were robbed in August too, thought by different thieves.
They've discuss adding bulletproof glass or even hiring security.
While others business say they're simply used to it.
Several gas stations spoke with NBC 24 say they usually see an increase in crime when it’s closer to the holidays. Currently there have been no injuries, but Police worry that things will escalate.
They’re asking for the public to call Crime stoppers at (419) 255-1111.
