During a closed session on Tuesday, the Toledo Public School Board voted 4 to 0 in favor of starting negotiations to retain the district's superintendent.
In August of this year, Dr. Romules Durant was named TPS's interim superintendent as part of a 1-year contract; earning the Toledo native a salary of $140,000.
The proposed negotiations would seek to keep Durant, in his current position, for three years.
If a deal can be made, Durant's contract would have to be approved by the board.
School officials say that the vote plans to take place before the end of the year.
In his short time as interim superintendent, Durant was part of a successful effort to pass a renewal operating levy in early November.
