TPS to hold town hall with superintendent candidates

Toledo Public Schools will host a town hall meeting this Thursday for those in the community who wish to meet two candidates for district Superintendent.

Dr. Jerome Pecko and Dr. Tom Watkins will be on hand this Thursday for the town hall style meeting with district parents, students, school board members and community leaders. The candidates will present their vision for TPS.

The meeting will also be streamed live on the KnowledgeStream website. All community members are asked to submit their questions for the candidates via the website.

Pecko is the former Supertintendent for Springfield Local Schools near Akron, Ohio. Watkins is the president of an education consulting firm.

TPS Board President Bob Vasquez says the board narrowed down their Superintendent search to the final two candidates based on their non-traditional qualifications. "The candidates that the Board has interviewed offered the district a variety of experiences and background. In the end, we felt that Dr. Pecko and Dr. Watkins were the strongest candidates and that their professional attributes meet both the current and future needs of Toledo Public Schools."

The town-hall meeting will be held Thursday, Jul. 1 at WGTE Studios, 1270 South Detroit Ave. in Toledo from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
