Trial begins for teen charged with bringing gun to Raymer Elementary

A Raymer Elementary student was arrested after bringing a loaded gun to school on Friday.

The 15-year-old student charged with bringing a loaded hangun to Raymer Elementary School last month will face a judge at the Lucas County juvenile detention center on Tuesday.

The .380-caliber handgun was found inside a pocket in the student's jacket as a school employee was checking for a missing coat on March 22. Police said the teen admitted to purchasing the weapon from someone on the street.

At his trial today, the teen faces felony charges of carrying a concealed weapon, underage purchase of a firearm, possession of a defaced weapon, conveyance of a deadly weapon on to a school zone and a misdemeanor safe school violation.
