Troopers bust counterfeit hat stash worth $62,000

Thousands of counterfeit hats were confiscated during a traffic stop.

State Highway Patrol troopers seized more than $62,000 worth of counterfeit baseball hats at a Lorain County traffic stop on Feb. 1.

The driver, 41-year-old Tae Gone Park of Glenview. Ill., was arrested after the trooper noticed stacks of the hats inside the car. A consent search revealed 3,116 counterfeit baseball hats with trademarked logos of the NFL, NBA, MLB, The Ohio State University and Monster Energy Drink.

Park was incarcerated in the Lorain County Jail and charged with trademark counterfeiting, a fourth-degree felony.
