TOLEDO -- Staff at the University of Toledo are celebrating a new contract that will afford them raises and further negotiations.
The new three-year contract between UT and 530 employees represented by the Communications Workers of America Local 4319 is being officially signed during a ceremony Thursday.
The clerical, maintenance, and custodial workers that primarily serve the university's Bancroft campus have agreed, with the school's Board of Trustees, to a contract which runs from Jan. 1, 2014 through the end of 2016.
Workers will receive a 2.5-percent wage increase in year one, effective July 14. A 1-percent wage increase will go into effect in the second year of the contract, beginning Jan. 1, 2015.
In 2016, the contract calls for new wage negotiations and a lump-sum retroactive wage provision.
