The University of Toledo has banned all smoking on the school's main campus.
After months of discussion, the school's board of trustees voted unanimously for the ban at a Monday session. While UT's Health Science campus has been smoke free since 2008, students on the Bancroft Street campus had been able to smoke or use tobacco products in designated areas or personal vehicles.
In August of 2011, the university implemented a policy that prohibited tobacco use on campus except for any of seven designated smoking shelters set up across the main campus. The policy was put in place in an effort to limit secondhand smoke.
The school's new policy will extend to all students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
