University of Toledo to host 'Veterans Matter Ride' on Saturday
TOLEDO, Oh. (WNWO) —
The University of Toledo will be honoring the military at its football game Saturday.
Along with Harley Davidson, University of Toledo Military Service Center will host the first "Veterans Matter Ride" to help house homeless veterans as part of the University’s “Hero Appreciation Day.”
Registration for the motorcycle ride is from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. in parking lot 5 of Savage Arena. The ride begins at 11 a.m. with police escort through campus and ends at Toledo Harley-Davidson on Central Avenue.
Before the football game begins, two veterans will transport the American flag across the field with a 180th Fighter Wing fly-over.
Those interested in riding can pre-register by texting “Harley” to 41444 or online at VeteransMatter.org/ride. The cost is $10 per rider or $25 for premium registration, which includes a pin and event shirt.
All proceeds will help house more homeless veterans in our community, state and nation.
“There are still over 39,00 veterans homeless on the streets of America. We probably have another 50 or so in the que here in northwest Ohio we're looking to get housed. So it's an ongoing solution," Ken Leslie, Founder of Veterans Matter
