After a 3 year construction project the new US 24 Expressway from Napolean to Waterville is now open. Lucas County residents and elected officials gathered for a ribbon cutting ceremony in Waterville. The project has been in the works for decades. The Napolean to Waterville stretch which was built at a cost of $169 million is part of the larger $400 million Fort wayne to the Port of Toledo project.
Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur gave remarks after the ribbon cutting and said the project was a long time in coming. "For the three decades that I have been in federal service this project has been slowly creeping along and today we have finally dedicated the portion from Waterville to Napolean," Rep. Kaptur said. Transportation officials expect the new roadway will lead to shorter commute times as well as for safer driving conditions for motorists.
