UT student collects over 1,000 pairs of shoes for Haiti

In March a group of students attending the University of Toledo went on a mission trip to West Haiti on their spring break. One of those students was Sylvania native Jordan Keefe. The trip had a lasting impression on the Northview High School graduate. Of the many observations the chemical engineering major made during his weeklong visit was the need that many Haitians had for footwear. To that end Jordan created a website the purpose of which is to collect shoes and send them to impoverished countries. In the first two months of the enterprise Jordan has collectd over 1,000 pairs of shoes. "We have collected 1400 pairs of shoes an dnow the goal is to get it back down to Haiti, that's where the dream started, that's where the need is," Jordan said.

The next step is to raise the funds needed to ship the shoes to Haiti. "It's going to cost around $4,000 to $5,000 and they need to be shipped relatively soon because we are trying to get back in September," Jordan said. To find more about Jordan's shoes project and to donate visit
