Valentine's Day rush
MAUMEE, Ohio (WNWO) - Chocolate shops are slammed in the days leading up to Valentine’s Day. Employees are working long hours just to make sure everyone gets the perfect gift.
"I was in here looking for these turtles, it's my favorite," said Lorie Steinmetz, who was Valentine’s Day shopping at Maumee Valley Chocolate and Candy.
On the corner of Wayne and Conant in downtown Maumee, you’ll find a little piece of chocolate heaven. Also known as Maumee Valley Chocolate and Candy.
"It's a lovely place, because it has such great variety and quality,” said Angel Dandar, who was shopping for the holiday.
But every February 13th, it can get a bit hectic.
"Today we were here at six in the morning, bright and early," said Jason Peters, one of the owners of Maumee Valley Chocolate and Candy. “We’re a small little store and it gets filled up, but it’s a lot of fun.”
It's the Valentine’s Day rush. Peters said the most popular item is chocolate covered strawberries. The shop has been getting calls, making sure they won’t run out of them.
"We have about 4,000 on hand right now, but we can get more,” said Peters.
There is something for everyone at the shop.
"We have a case with about 100 different items, so you can customize your own box,” said Peters.
If chocolate isn't your thing, you can do a little truffle shuffle to the other side of the shop.
"They have the traditional candy, the old time stuff,” said Dandar.
If you haven't found the perfect gift yet, don’t worry, Maumee Valley Chocolate and Candy will be open on Valentine’s Day as well.
Peters and his employees said they pull a few late nights leading up to Wednesday, but it's worth it.
