Officials are hoping the public can help lead them to whoever vandalized the historic Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial at Put-In-Bay over the weekend.
Century-old granite benches were turned over and at least one person urinated on the historic memorial doors, according to reports. Several trash cans were tipped over and the garbage littered on the lawn surrounding the monument.
Officials have no estimate on damage.
Perry's Monument commemorates a key victory in the War of 1812. It underwent an extensive three-year renovation that was completed two years ago.
Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call Put-In-Bay police at 419-285-4121.
