Vehicle strikes girl, 11, crossing West Central

An 11-year-old Toledo girl is recovering from serious injuries after she was hit by a car while crossing the street.

Police say Aryelle Hutcherson and her 10-year-old sister were attempting to cross West Central Avenue between Upton and Auburn on Wednesday afternoon when Hutcherson was hit by a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Jermain Shores.

Investigators said the sisters were crossing the road at a marked location. It is believed Shores and the girls could not see each other because of another vehicle that had stopped to let them cross.

Hutcherson was taken to Toledo Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. No citations were issued.
