Verdict reached for second Springfield Twp. murder suspect
Fri, 27 Jul 2012 14:35:37 GMT —
A jury found the second suspect accused in the strangling deaths of a Springfield Township couple guilty of murder on Friday morning.
Samuel Williams, 24, was found guilty on two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of kidnapping and one count of aggravated burglary for the deaths of 20-year-old Lisa Straub and her boyfriend, 21-year-old Johnny Clark. The couple was found dead with plastic bags over their heads inside Straub's parents' Longacre Lane home in January 2011.
A Lucas County judge dismissed the murder charges against 23-year-old Cameo Pettaway on Thursday, citing lack of evidence.
Prosecutors said Williams and Pettaway's DNA was on a cigarette butt found outside the victims' home.
The jury in Williams' case did not know about Pettaway's acquittal and were not able to consider it during deliberations.
