Victim gunned down by bicyclists identified

Toledo police have identified 27-year-old Saveon Childress of Toledo as the man fatally shot on Prospect Avenue late Sunday.

According to the police report, Childress and his brother, Jowan Childress, were walking to a carryout around 10 p.m. when they were approached by two unknown suspects on bicycles at Lincoln and Hoag streets. Police report that after a short exchange, the Childress brothers walked northbound on Hoag to Prospect as the suspects proceeded westbound on Lincoln Street to Ray Street.

As the brothers continued walking on Prospect, the suspects approached them and began shooting, striking Saveon twice in the chest. Jowan was able to flee on foot without being injured. The unknown suspects then separated and fled northbound on their bikes.

Saveon was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Police provided WNWO with a surveillance tape of one of the suspects and hope the public will be able to help identify the pair. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111.
