Members of the Toledo Walleye hockey team delivered a Christmas surprise to a local needy family on Monday.
Cameron Jones, Jewel Harris and Aniyah Harris arrived at their south Toledo home after school and were greeted by several Walleye players, each carrying armloads of Christmas gifts through the front door.
â??I came in and saw all these presents and I was like, wow,â?? said Jewel Harris, who walked in from high school. She added, â??It was really nice.â??
Team Chaplain Tom Fraser helped spearhead the idea, and Walleye players donated their own money to purchase gifts for the family who needed help this holiday season.
â??Itâ??s everything that we hoped it would be,â?? said Walleye forward Kevin Lynch. He added, â??Thatâ??s the reason you do these things, itâ??s to make people happy and lift their spirits.â??
Each child was allowed to open one gift on Monday. The rest of the presents will remain under the tree until Christmas.
