Washington Jr. High rocks out to stellar Ohio report card

Washington Local Schools Superintendent, Patrick Hickey, beamed with pride as he praised Washington Junior High School for earning an "Excellent with Distinction" grade on the latest Ohio report card.

Students and staff at Washington Junior High School danced "Gangnam Style" on Wednesday to celebrate the school's Excellent with Distinction grade on the latest Ohio report card.

Washington Local Schools Superintendent, Patrick Hickey, beamed with pride as he praised his school for their accomplishment.

"For them to be Excellent with Distinction is a real gold medal for our district," said Hickey. He continued, "I wanted to make sure that they knew how appreciative I am for their staff's hard work and the hard work of the kids, because they really did a fantastic job."

The district made the leap to "Excellent with Distinction" after receiving a rating of "Effective" in 2011. Washington Local Schools was rated "Excellent" the previous calendar year. Washington Junior High School basketball and football teams also played for state championships in 2012

Hickey later invited students on-stage and rocked out to PSY's "Gangnam Style."

"If I want them to have courage, I have to have a little bit of courage," said hickey. "It was just a real good day to show courage and celebrate success."

Vito's Pizza donated slices of mac and cheese pizza for students at lunch. The theme of motivation and courage continued after lunch as students watched the movie, "Karate Kid." Each student also took home an "Excellent with Distinction" t-shirt, courtesy of the Washington Parent Club.
