Child abuse is preventable and people in Lucas County are being asked to wear blue on Wednesday to remind others of that fact.
In 2013, in Lucas County, nearly 1,000 children were victims of abuse. Nationwide, more than nine out of every 1,000 children was a substantiated victim of abuse or neglect in 2011. All of these cases could have been prevented.
Lucas County Children Services is urging Lucas County residents to 'Wear Blue' on Wednesday, April 9, as a reminder that child abuse is preventable and to demonstrate a commitment to protecting children from maltreatment. Residents of all ages are encouraged to wear blue to school, work, or wherever they plan on spending the day.
On 'Wear Blue' day, people are encouraged to post photos of themselves wearing blue on Facebook or tweet their photos to @LucasCoOHKids.
The day-long event is held every year in April. LCCS says they will hold a memorial for a child that died within the past year as a result of maltreatment on April 25 at 11:30 a.m. at the agency's offices, 705 Adams St., Toledo.
Participate on Wednesday by taking a photo of yourself, your co-workers, group members, or club wearing blue. Share your photos with us on our Facebook page or by tweeting @WNWOtv. We'll share your photos with LCCS and spread the word on the fight against child abuse.
