Volunteers spent part of their Fourth of July at Savage Park applying fresh paint on the asphalt basketball courts.
During the summer, the park is the home court of the City Park Summer Basketball League. Montrice Terry is the program's director.
"It's the 4th of July and the weekend is upon us and there are going to be a lot of people out there and we just wanted to beautify our community and our courts," Mr. Terry said.
Every weekend from Friday until August 23 to August 24 young people from all over Toledo will be playing basketball from 3 to 8 p.m. at Savage Park.
The city of Toledo's Recreation and Parks Department provided the paint and other materials.
15-year-old Raynard Hurst was one of the volunteer painting the courts today.
"I have been living around here since I was a kid and I wanted to help out with the park and make it look better," Raynard said.
