A potential threat to Whitmer High School on Monday prompted school officials and police to spring into action.

The threat of a potential shooting at the school was posted on Facebook Sunday night, but was not credible, according to Washington Local Schools.

Whitmer Principal Albert Bernhardt told parents on Monday that the threat was thoroughly investigated by school officials and Toledo Police. No credible evidence was found and students were not in harm's way.

"We have met with the student who indicated she fabricated the post for attention," Bernhardt wrote to parents on Monday. "Please reassure your students that they are safe and we are handling the situation."

The school said it will be meeting with the student's parent and will determine a consequence for her actions.

"We take situations like this very seriously and will continue to investigate any and all threats to our safety here at Whitmer," Bernhardt said in a voicemail to parents.
