Woman charged in June fatal Toledo motorcycle crash

A Toledo woman has been charged in a June crash that killed a motorcyclist along West Alexis at Recamper Drive.

Lora Staton was booked into the Lucas County Jail on Thursday on a charge of aggravated vehicular homicide.

According to a warrant for Staton's arrest, the 34-year-old was under the influence of alcohol at the time she hit 43-year-old Vance Popp of Sylvania.

Officials noted that Staton's blood alcohol level (BAC) was .12, which is more than the

legal limit in Ohio of .08%


The warrant also states that as a direct result of the crash, and actions of Staton, that Mr.Popp was killed.

The 43-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, in the early morning hours of June 9, 2014.

Toledo Police Officer Jason Wallace said in his report that Staton failed to yield to Popp as she tried to turn onto West Alexis from Recamper Drive.

Staton is due in court for an initial hearing on June 11 at 9:00 a.m. in Toledo Municipal Court.

In March, Staton was arrested and charged with numerous other traffic violations including driving without a license.
