Wood County man dies after crashing into home, 2 others injured

A two vehicle crash ended with one person dead, 2 others injured, and a house catching fire on Monday afternoon.

Ohio State Highway Patrol says 82-year-old William Miller, of Northwood was killed in the accident.

Authorities tell WNWO that just before the crash, Miller and 29-year-old Michael Lowe, of Oak Harbor, were both heading westbound on SR 579 in separate vehicles.

Investigators say as Lowe tried turn into the Blackberry Corners Tavern, at the intersection of SR 579 and Elliston Trowbridge Road, Miller rear-ended Lowe.

Miller's pick-up truck then went off the right side and continued through a field hitting a house.

The house and the car then caught on fire just before 2 p.m.

Mr. Miller was pronounced dead at the scene, but no one in the home was injured.

Lowe and his passenger, 29-year-old Sarah Opfer of Oak Harbor, were both transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Both Lowe and Opfer have since been treated and released.

At this time officials do not believe Lowe was under the influence of alcohol, but an autopsy will need to be performed to determine any drug or alcohol use for Miller.
