A bus carrying youth football players hit a jack-knifed semi tanker on I-75 early Friday, injuring seven and shutting down the highway for almost three hours.
According to Detroit NBC affiliate WDIV, the semi swerved to avoid hitting a deer near Singler Road and crashed into a guardrail around 4 a.m. One of four buses transporting the Southfield Jayhawks to their tournament in Knoxville subsequently hit the tanker.
The bus driver, five passengers and the semi driver were taken to area hospitals for minor injuries, according to WDIV.
A Mercy Memorial Hospital spokeswoman told WNWO that they admitted three people from the crash. One was released after 5 a.m. and the other two were reportedly in stable condition.
I-75 was closed in both directions for most of the morning as crews worked to clear debris.
