A 5-month-old baby rescued from the deadly mudslide in Washington state is listed in serious condition and improving at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The hospital said Sunday that Duke Suddarth remains in the intensive care unit. His mother, 25-year-old Amanda Skorjanc, is in satisfactory condition at the hospital.

On Monday, crews tasked with searching for victims of the Oso mudslide, about 55 miles northeast of Seattle, gained a little ground after clearing a makeshift road linking one side of the 30-acre debris field to another.

The number of confirmed dead has reached 21. Four additional bodies found Sunday won't be added to the official count until the medical examiner receives them. Thirty others are listed as missing.
