Woman killed on flooded Indiana roadway

SPENCER, Ind. (AP) - Southern Indiana police say an elderly woman died when her car crashed along a flooded roadway as she was heading to a family gathering on Christmas Eve.

Emergency responders called to the scene Tuesday night in Owen County to investigate a report that a car had landed in flooded waters didn't find anyone in the flooded vehicle.

But WISH-TV reports that after a brief search that included door-to-door inquiries the body of 86-year-old Maxine Kay of Spencer was found partially submerged in the water near her car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Relatives say Kay was heading to a family gathering for the holidays but never arrived.
