Federal regulators are investigating an accidental shooting involving a security officer at Monroe County's Fermi 2 nuclear power plant.

A U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission report released Friday says the officer shot himself in the foot Thursday afternoon when his gun discharged.

DTE Energy Co. spokesman Scott Simons says the officer was unloading his gun at the end of his shift when it fired. His injury is not life-threatening. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

      No other injuries were reported.

The power plant is in Frenchtown Township, about 35 miles southwest of Detroit. It is owned and operated by DTE Energy.
