If Ottawa County Sheriff Bob Bratton gets his way fishing licenses will cost 25 cents more. Bratton says it's to help offset the costs of rescuing ice fisherman stranded on frozen waters,
Bratton says the 25 cents would be set aside in a special fund in case something like an ice rescue from February 2009 happens again. That rescue cost more than $250,000. Colorado has a similar program.
Bratton's plan needs to be implemented by legislation. He thinks that will happen after the first of the year.
