Ohio's new secretary of state wants to review how the Lucas County Board of Elections handled last year's election and the counting of provisional ballots. Secretary of State Jon Husted on Friday notified the board that he plans to send a team to the city for the review. The Republican says it can help determine what regulations may need to be changed and address questions raised since the November election, in which the provisional ballots changed the outcome of the race for county commissioner. Democrat Carol Contrada beat Republican George Sarantou, who filed a lawsuit alleging that irregularities and elections staff mistakes led to provisional ballots wrongly being counted. The elections board denied that, and Sarantou ended his lawsuit this week.
