George Sarantou, who apparently lost to be the new Lucas County commissioner to Sylvania Township Trustee, Carol Contrada, will challenge the results of that election. He will file a contest of election with the Lucas County Common Pleas Court Monday afternoon.
Sarantou, a Toledo city councilman, was the apparent winner on election night, having bested Contrada by 1,376 votes. However, when provisional ballots were included, Contrada was declared the winner by 193 votes. A recount seemed to affirm that decision.
Sarantou issued a statement that indicated he was filing the appeal because of "issues surrounding provisional ballots cast in the commissioner's race in the November 2010 election."
He also stated that the Board of Elections has not provided all requested public documents requested by his campaign.
Sarantou will file his challenge at 2:00 PM Monday.
