Toledo trash pick-up now in private hands

Major changes are in store for more than 95,000 Toledo homes. The city is transferring trash service to private company Allied Waste creating a county wide trash system.

The move is expected to save Toledo millions each year. It also means no more color coded system, no more leap forward. But there will be about an 80 cent monthly increase in your trash free.

Allied Waste's 5 year contract begins September 1, 2011 but you could start seeing their trucks in your neighborhood around June or July.
