The futures of several school districts were in the hands of voters Tuesday night. Many asked residents to renew or replace existing levies. Maumee, Springfield Local and Bedford all passed. Bowling Green and Otsego failed.
Voters in Bowling Green didn TMt allow a ban on cell phones. The bill would have made it illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving in the city of Bowling Green. The proposal failed by a vote of 56 percent voting against and 44 percent voting for.
Detroit has a new mayor. Voters elected Dave Bing to the office. He will serve the remainder of former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's second term, which ends this fall. Bing will have to win the general election in November to remain the city's mayor. The 65-year-old Bing played for the Detroit Pistons and is a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame.
