Mealers turn tragedy into benefit

Elliott (L) and Blake Mealer

On Christmas Eve of 2007, Elliott Mealer lost his father and girlfriend in a tragic car crash.

The Wauseon High School alum would recover and is not an offensive lineman for the Michigan Wolverines. His brother, Brock, who was paralyzed in the crash, is slated to lead the Wolverines onto the field in their home opener, on his own two feet.

Before Brock's big day at Michigan Stadium, the Mealers held a golf outgoing in memory of their dad Thursday, the week after Father's Day. David Mealer's sons Brock, Blake and Elliott were on hand, along with a number of Wolverine players.

NBC24 photojournalist Adam Meyer was in Defiance for the David Mealer Memorial Golf Classic to show us how the Mealer family has turned their tragedy into a benefit for others.
