Page, Whalen headed to the pros

Eric Page at UT's Pro Day

The NFL Draft came and went and no Toledo or Bowling Green players were chosen. Afterward, however, it seemed every minute there was a new signing.

Springfield alum and Toledo junior, Eric Page, signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and quickly tweeted out this message:

"Been a long road but I wouldn't expect any different way, always been proving myself this STEP will be no different ..Tampa Bay Buccaneers!!"

UPDATE: Early Sunday morning, Page deleted the tweet and has since signed a contract with the Denver Broncos.

Southview alum and Stanford wide receiver, Griff Whalen, signed with the Indianapolis Colts. The move reunites him with his Cardinal teammate, quarterback Andrew Luck, who was the first pick taken in the draft.

Rockets O-Lineman Mike VanDerMeulen signed with Tampa Bay, and told us, via phone, how he chose the Bucs over San Francisco.

"The interest that they've shown throughout the whole thing...[I] kind of felt a sense of loyalty because of that."

      Other Rockets signing include:

      Phil Manley (OL) - Atlanta

      Desmond Marrow (FS) - Houston

Danny Noble (TE) - Tampa Bay

Adonis Thomas (RB) - San Diego

      BGSU signees include:

      Ben Bojicic (OL) - Cincinnati

      Kamar Jorden (WR) - Minnesota

There was one local player taken in the draft. Audie Cole, a Monroe high school alum and linebacker for NC State, went in round 7 to the Minnesota Vikings.
