Now the Tim Beckman era is over.

After accepting the head coaching position at Illinois on Friday, former Toledo head football coach Tim Beckman held his last press conference at the University on Sunday.

Beckman thanked numerous people involved with UT, including Athletic Director Mike O'Brien and sports information director Paul Helgren. He also thanked the Toledo community for the support for the last three years. Beckman saved his highest praise for his players.

"There's only one way that that opportunity for me to further my career and to do something that was an ambitious thing for me was because of them."

Since Beckman's departure, Toledo named offensive coordinator Matt Campbell the interim head coach.

"I think Matt Campbell does a great job," Beckman said. "Matt Campbell's been offered the position [offensive coordinator] with me and we'll see what transpires from it."

Beckman was also asked if there was any thought in coaching the Rockets in the Military Bowl on December 28th.

"When I made the commitment to be the Illinois head football coach, I need to be committed 110% to the University of Illinois. And to come back and coach in a bowl game, I don't think it's fair to Illinois, I don't think it's fair to our football players at Toledo," Beckman said.

Beckman said he also relied on the support and advice from Urban Meyer, Jim Tressel, former BG head coach Gregg Brandon and Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy.
