CLEVELAND, OH - The University of Toledo womenâ??s basketball team rode the hot hand of sophomore Ana Capotosto to knock off No. 7 seed Western Michigan, 72-61, in second-round action at Quicken Loans Arena Wednesday afternoon.
The victory allows the No. 6 seed Rockets (16-15) to advance to the quarterfinals tomorrow where they will play No. 3 seed Akron (20-9) at approximately 2:20 p.m. Toledo, which defeated Ohio in the first round at Savage Arena on Monday, will need three more victories to secure its first MAC Tournament title since 2001.
Toledo won convincingly despite losing two close games to the Broncos in the regular season.
The Rockets were aided by accurate shooting and stingy defense. UT connected on 28-of-63 (44.4%) of its shots (7-of-13 from long range), while holding the Broncos to just 25-of-69 (37.9%).
