The Toledo Rockets have a starting quarterback, and his name is Phillip Ely.
Ely will start under center for the Rockets when they take on New Hampshire in their home opener at the Glass Bowl Saturday night.
The Alabama transfer battled Logan Woodside and Michael Julian for the starting position all summer.
Rockets head coach Matt Campbell said just one reason Ely won the job was his ability to make smart decisions. "That position has got to be one of the most unselfish and leadership-driven positions on your football team," Campbell said after announcing Ely as the starter. "You have to have a really special, dynamic guy at that position to be able to handle the success, but also handle the criticism that comes with it."
Campbell said he may shuffle his quarterbacks in the starting position throughout the season.
