28th Annual Marathon Classic is in full swing

Hometown favorite Stacy Lewis is the top-ranked American player on LPGA tour

The best women's golfers in the world are in town this week for the 28th annual Marathon Classic.

The stakes are high once again this year with a field of 144 golfers (141 pros, one amateur, and two qualifiers) competing for a purse worth $1,300,000. First round play will start Thursday, but for the next few days the tournament will be hosting a few Pro-Ams to give the golfers a chance to get to know the course and the community.

A few local golfers, including top-ranked American LPGA golfer Stacy Lewis, are excited about the opportunity this week for their family and friends to come out and support them at Highland Meadows Golf Club.

Tuesday, July 16: Brooks Insurance/Health Care REIT Pro-Am at Inverness 8 a.m.; KeyBank Putting Pro-Am 11 a.m.; The Image Group Celebrity/Pro Challenge 3 p.m.; The Hollywood Casino Gala Dinner & Show at SeaGate Centre 6 p.m.

Wednesday, July 17: Fathead Celebrity Pro-Am 7 a.m.

Thursday, July 18: First Round TBA

Friday, July 19: Second Round TBA

Saturday, July 20: Third Round

Sunday, July 21: Final Round - 18th Green Closing Ceremony
