It's Summer here in Toledo but it's never too early to be thinking about football.
St. John's alum and Miami Dolphins punter Brandon Fields is back in Toledo, and getting prepared to host his second annual football and cheerleading camp.
"It's basically for kids kindergarten through 8th grade...get them outside, both football and cheerleading, running around having a good time and learning a little bit at the same time." said Fields.
The camp does not yet have an official name but it is funded by by the BRANDON AND KATIE FIELDS YOUTH FITNESS FUND, an organization started by Fields and his wife. Helping to coach the camp will be Fields' Michigan State teammate and 5-year NFL veteran Chris Morris, who's also a Bedford Alum.
Thursday is the 100th day of the NFL lockout so Fields himself has been unable to take part in team camps. That hasn't stopped him, however, from staying in shape.
"I know what I need to do to get ready for the season. So I've been working out...running, lifting weights, and also kicking. I know a lot of my teammates have [been] doing the same. We've been getting together doing stuff...I believe it will end soon, some time in the next couple of weeks...probably mid-July." Fields said.
The camp is free and will start at noon on Sunday and go until 3:30pm at St. John's high school. There will be registration the day of the event.
