Former BGSU Falcon named to NHL Hall of Fame

Former BGSU hockey player, Rob Blake, has been selected to the 2014 NHL Hall of Fame class.

Blake is joined by centers Mike Modano and Peter Forsberg, and former Detroit Red Wings goalie Dominik Hasek. Also inducted are longtime coach Pat Burns and referee Bill McCreary.

The defenseman spent three seasons with the Falcons from 1987-1990. He had completed his freshman year at Bowling Green State University when he was selected 70th in the 1988 NHL Draft by the Los Angeles Kings.

The Ontario native earned Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) and NCAA West First All-Star Team honors in 1990. Blake was also the first player to ever receive the CCHA Best Offensive Defenseman award.

Foregoing his final season of college eligibility, Blake joined the Kings for the final four games of the 1989-90 season. He scored 46 points in his NHL rookie year in 1990-91 and was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team.

He also spent time with the Colorado Avalanche and the San Jose Sharks. Blake retired after the 2009-10 season.
