72 hockey hopefuls were at the Huntington Center on Saturday with one goal in mind: playing for the Toledo Walleye.

It was the annual tryouts for the ECHL Club. A combined 18 people were from Ohio and Michigan. Among those were Justin Deeds, a 2009 Wauseon high school graduate and Jason Fox of Fremont.

Fox graduated from Fremont Ross high school in 1995. At 34, he was the oldest person trying out. Fox also served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, this was his first attempt at professional hockey. He was a reserve for five years in the 983rd Eng Bn out of Monclova, OH.

Fox dedicated his tryout to Kendel Fredricks, his roommate during his tour of duty. Fredricks, who was from Trinidad & Tobago, died from an IED blast en route to signing his US citizenship papers.

Tryouts continue throughout the weekend and single game tickets, including the home opener, are on sale now.
