The Lady Rockets climbed back from their second league loss to improve their record to 18-5 overall and 8-2 in the Mid-American Conference after their 76-54 victory at Ohio (6-17, 2-8 MAC) Saturday.
UT shot 50 percent (27-of-54) from the field, including 38.1 percent (8-of-21) from behind the three point line and made 14 of 23 (60.9 percent) of their free throwsUT had four players in double digits, senior Tanika Mays had 12, junior Melissa Goodall contributed 11 points, sophomore Naama Shafir added 10 and senior Lisa Johnson scored a season-high 13 points off the bench.
Other players that contributed to the scoreboard were junior Jessica Williams (9 pts.), sophomore Clare Aubry (8 pts.) and freshman Lecretia Smith (6 pts.). The game started off neck-in-neck but Johnson hit three field goals to give the Rockets a 20-12 lead at 10:54. With 7:43 remaining, the Rockets lengthened the lead to 27-16 with baskets from Smith, Mays and Williams.
A three pointer from Williams and Johnson TMs three point play gave the Rockets a ten point lead, 37-27, at halftime. UT scored 10 of the first 14 points in the second half to increase the lead to 48-31. Back-to-back field goals from Smith and a three from Aubry made the score 55-38 and after that the Rockets TM lead never went under 14 points. Jennifer Bushby only Ohio player in double figures with a game-high 16 points.
The Bobcats shot 40 percent (20-of-50) from the floor and had 18 turnovers that turned into 19 points for the Rockets. The Rockets TM next game is Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena against Akron.
