Mitchell, in the No. 98 Thermal Technology Services Ford, won the pole earlier this season at Toledo and was on the pole at both Springfield and Berlin last year. Those previous three poles were track records. His lap at Michigan International Speedway Friday morning was not a track record at 187.534 mph. but still fast enough to give him the pole.
With the win, Mitchell earns 15 bonus points to put him within five of Grant Enfinger who is first in the standings.
