The Detroit Tigers designated outfielder Quintin Berry for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for newly obtained outfielder/third baseman Francisco Martinez from the Seattle Mariners on Sunday.
Berry was a key player off the bench for the Tigers last season and was one of the final cuts during spring training this spring. Berry has struggled this season with the Toledo Mud Hens, hitting .168 with 45 strikeouts in 49 games.
In the next 10 days, Berry will either be released, traded or outrighted back to the Hens if not claimed on waivers.
Before Berry was put on DFA, WNWO's Sports Director Will Kunkel sat down with Berry to talk about his struggles this season and how much pressure he has put on himself to get back to playing for the Tigers.
