Rockets beat Central Michigan, BG falls at Akron

Julius Brown stops on dime before hitting 2 of his 29 points Wednesday night. UT beat Central Michigan 72-67.

Believe it or not the University of Toledo Rocket men's basketball team still has a chance to win their division.

Those words haven't been linked together since Stan Joplin was head coach.

UT had an 11-point lead with less than five minutes to play, only to see that cut to two with 35-seconds left.

However, Julius Brown would ice the game making three out of four free throws in the final seconds, en route to a 72-67 win.

"I think we're turning a corner," said UT head coach Tod Kowalczyk. "We can win ugly (and) that was one of the things we really struggled with early in the year."

Brown led the Rockets by tying a career-high with 29 points. The freshman point guard was 10 of 11 from the field and 8 out of 10 from the free throw line.

"Tonight it just felt like everything was going in," said Brown. "This is one of the best games throughout my college career and my high school career."

UT is now 14-14, 5-8 in MAC play. They are two games back in the West with three games left, all against division opponents.

If they win out, they win West.

That has not happened since 2006-'07, when Stan Joplin was named MAC coach of the year.
