Findlay senior C.J. Gettys goes up for the slam vs Anthony Wayne

It was a battle of the big guys at Liberty-Benton as Anthony Wayne and Findlay met in the Division I District semi-final.

Trojans senior C.J. Gettys may have gotten the better of Generals junior Mark Donnal, with 15 points and a thunderous break away jam, but the latter's team had the last laugh prevailing 37-28.

"This is the first time Anthony Wayne [boys basketball] has been to a District final," said Donnal, who finished with eight points to lead a balanced Generals scoring attack.

"Our people travelled 45 minutes to get here, they were loud, our students were was just a great high school basketball game," said Anthony Wayne head coach Bryan Borcherdt.

In the Division III District semi-final, Lake won a physical battle against Ontario, 65-51. Senior Ra'Shad Smith led the way for the Flyers with 31 points.

"This is what we've been working for all year so we want to keep playing hard and go for this District championship, baby," said Smith.

In the Napoleon region of District III, Ottawa-Glandorf held off Patrick Henry, 38-35. And in the play of the night, and perhaps the year, Liberty-Benton's John Darnell heaved a shot from roughly three quarters away to beat the buzzer and give the Eagles a stunning 62-59 win over Spencerville in the Division III Lima District.
